Hunt Valley, MD – Dartmouth Journal Services, with support from the Sheridan Technology Lab, has been working with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to create and launch a multi-journal app for both the iOS and Android platforms (the iOS app to launch in March 2012, and Android app slated for an April 2012 launch). The ADA Journals app will provide immediate access to full-text articles for users with personal or institutional subscriptions to Diabetes, Diabetes Care, Diabetes Spectrum, and/or Clinical Diabetes.
The ADA Journals app will provide users with the ability to download, search, view, and save abstracts and full-text articles, including publish-ahead-of-print articles. In addition to accessing the latest journal content, both as full-text HTML and as PDF, users can also access supplemental material, listen to podcasts, subscribe to and follow diabetes-related news feeds, bookmark content, and share articles via email, Facebook, and Twitter.
Although the app will initially provide free access to all content for an introductory period, the app manages the authentication of both individual and institutional subscribers via a simple and easy feature. A Sheridan exclusive – user-configurable offline content caching – gives users access to full-text articles, figures, and tables anytime, anywhere – without a network connection.
“The American Diabetes Association is extremely excited to work with Sheridan on developing the ADA Journals app,” said Christian Kohler, Managing Director of Scholarly Journals for the American Diabetes Association. “As a publisher of high-impact diabetes-related research, our goal is to make sure our content is as widely and easily accessible as possible for our readers and subscribers. The ADA Journals app will help us achieve that goal.”
Sheridan Full-Text Apps are the latest in a suite of mobile products developed and supported through The Sheridan Group companies, and with the support of the Sheridan Technology Lab. Others include Sheridan Mobile Alerts, Sheridan Mobile Editions, Sheridan Mobile ePrints, and Sheridan Print-to-Mobile QR Codes.
“Looking back on the last 15 years, we watched as publishers adopted the web, and the inclusion of an online journal website moved from a benefit to a requirement for all science publishers. Now in 2012, we are beginning to see history repeat itself with the rapid adoption of mobile apps. In the past few years it has been a novel offering for publishers to provide, but it is increasingly an expectation of users,” stated Michael Hepp, Senior Technology Strategist at Dartmouth Journal Services. “We’re excited to expand our services with the American Diabetes Association and provide them with a comprehensive mobile app service that will serve the needs of their users now and in the future.”
