LOCATION: Random Lake, WI

Sheridan, a CJK Group company, recently acquired the former Times Printing facility in Random Lake, WI and is looking for an Expeditor/Fulfillment. This is a 324,000 sq. ft. print facility specializing in high quality 4-color printing of magazines, catalogs, and a wide spectrum of commercial print products.

Job Summary:

The Pre-Press Operator processes computer-to-plate jobs using the various computers, department workstations and output devices. This process includes examining incoming files for suitability, importing files into the appropriate application software and inspecting output material to assure the files conform to customer and Sheridan specifications. Processing may also include contacting customers, CSRs and other departments to clarify requirements and assisting them in preparing and processing files for use by Sheridan. Because you are in contact with employees, customers and vendors, and in a key position for guaranteeing their satisfaction, this position requires confidentiality, tact, sensitivity and professionalism. As a Prepress Operator, you are accountable for meeting the department production and quality goals, as well as playing a key role in meeting company-wide profitability and customer satisfaction goals.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate as a key player in the company by supporting operations as needed
  • Communicate effectively with the Shift Leader, Department Supervisor and Department Manager, informing and updating regularly to guarantee that the schedule, company objectives and customer objectives are met
  • Provide training and advice to customers on the preparation of their digital files
  • Keep current on the latest technologies and software tools
  • Be pro-active to prevent and solve concerns and problems
  • Read, understand and comply with all company and department Standard Operation Procedures and prescribed paperwork
  • Send and receive files electronically via FTP, e-mail and InSite
  • Maintain a clean and professional work area
  • Maintain well-organized job boxes and job folders on the file server
  • Prepare job materials and information in a neat and easily understood manner for shift changes and department transfers
  • Output files and proofs as necessary to meet the job and quality requirements
  • Effectively troubleshoot files to achieve proper output
  • Inspect output of proofs (soft and hard) for accuracy and to assure conformance to the job’s and to the company’s production requirements
  • Read and understand press layouts and create accurate imposition templates as needed for each job
  • Fully understand press specifications in relation to needed press marks. These include, but are not limited to: trims, lip IDs, grids, register control, color bars
  • Accurately prepare all needed proofs, dummies and materials to be sent to customer for approval

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

  • Minimum of 2 years of print production experience. Layout experience and press configuration knowledge is required.
  • Excellent language and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to details and quality
  • Thorough knowledge of professional publishing applications for Mac OS or Windows including: Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop
  • Thorough knowledge of CTP workflow and imposition software – Prinergy, UpFront and Preps
  • Adequate knowledge of Macintosh and Windows platforms and operating systems
  • Knowledge of PDF and PDF plug-ins
  • Ability to prepare files for output to proof or plate, receive and manipulate files electronically and maintain operating systems on production machine
  • Ability to prepare and send files to a variety of output devices
  • Ability to move freely throughout the building to gather information, materials and authorizations

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Mandatory hearing protection if in the production area of the plant
  • Chemical exposure is low. The only possible exposures are toners from copiers and printers and a few chemicals used in the Prepress area.
  • Sitting and computer usage is approximately 85% of the time
  • Temperature is constant, no extremes
  • Lifting a maximum of 10 pounds
  • Possible eye and neck strain due to computer usage

Schedule is Monday to Friday– 40 hours/week

  • 2:30PM – 11:00PM – 1 opening
  • Overtime pays time and a half after 40 hours per week
  • Shift premium paid for hours worked during shift
