In Their Words – SWI Apprenticeship Spotlight

by Laura

Inspiring and teaching the workforce of tomorrow begins today. At Sheridan’s Madison, WI facility, these words have been put into action with a Youth Apprenticeship Program. This June marks the one year anniversary of the program’s first youth apprentice at Sheridan: Sam Rayowski, class of 2022 Mount Horeb High School. We sat down with Sam as he reflected on his experience and this is what he had to say…

Sam Rayowski – Maintenance Apprentice at Sheridan WI.

Why did you choose this apprenticeship?

My teacher presented me with three options for an apprenticeship and I chose Sheridan because of the hands-on day-to-day tasks.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship experience?

I like being hands-on and everyone I work with is super friendly and makes me feel comfortable working here.

What is a typical day like?

I clock in and meet with my supervisor to review what the team is working on. I’ll shadow them for a bit and then they give me a project that I work on until the end of my shift.

What are your future plans?

I plan to go to Madison College and continue to work here. I am interested in metal fabrication, which will help me as I work on projects at Sheridan.

Reflections from Sheridan

Sam is our first youth apprentice at Sheridan WI. This program has been a great experience and gives students a different perspective on all types of career choices. Sam has shown dedication and a willingness to take on different projects and he completes them in a timely manner. We are excited that Sam has chosen to stay at Sheridan WI, and while taking courses at the local college, he continues to grow in our maintenance department.
