Hunt Valley, MD – JNS Online, a four-title full-text app developed by Dartmouth Journal Services and the Sheridan Technology Lab, is set to launch in October 2012 in both iPhone/iPad and Android platforms. JNS Online offers mobile access to Journal of Neurosurgery (JNS), Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine (JNS:Spine), Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics (JNS:Peds), and Neurosurgical Focus (NSFocus). The Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG) will make it available to institutional and individual subscribers, free for an introductory period of 90 days after release.
The app, designed to optimize reading and browsing on any device, allows users to read and cache full-text articles on their device, view high resolution images and video via YouTube and in-article links, access newsfeeds and podcasts, bookmark articles (saving full-text indefinitely), and search full-text journal content, including publish-before-print. Users can also read and share content through Facebook, Twitter, and email. User-configurable offline content caching – a Sheridan exclusive feature –provides access to full-text articles, figures and tables anytime, without a network connection.
“We are very excited about our newest collaboration with Dartmouth Journal Services and The Sheridan Group,” said Gillian Shasby, Director of Publishing at JNSPG. “This app answers the requests of our readers for off-line browsing and bookmarking, and provides seamless coordination with our weekly publication model. Accessing and sharing our content is now even easier for our readership.”
Mike Hepp, Director of Technology Strategy at Dartmouth Journal Services, commented further, “As an alternative content distribution channel, mobile continues to rise and native mobile apps make that experience more engaging and useful for the end user whether they are on a tablet or on a smartphone. The increase in the number of high-quality tablets that are coming to market will continue to drive mobile usage and publishers like JNSPG will serve their users well by offering access to a range of content on both the iOS and Android platforms.”
Sheridan’s ongoing commitment to developing and providing the latest publishing technology advancements extends beyond Full-Text and Alert Apps to include Sheridan Mobile Alerts, Sheridan Mobile Editions, Sheridan Mobile ePrints, and Sheridan Print-to-Mobile QR Codes.
