Hunt Valley, MD – Dartmouth Journal Services and the Sheridan Technology Lab, with the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), release a full-text journal app – AJTMH – available October 2012 in Apple and Android platforms.
The iPad, iPhone and Android mobile app will offer immediate access to full-text articles, allowing users to read, bookmark, download, and search journal content at any time, including high resolution images and feeds. App users will receive alerts to new content and will be able to easily share content through social media tools. Free full-content access will be available to the public through January 15, 2013, after which access will be available only to ASTMH members and individual journal subscribers. “This journal app positions the AJTMH at the forefront of the tropical medicine field and at the leading edge of publication,” said Joseph M. Vinetz, MD, Editor-in-Chief.
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, a monthly peer-reviewed publication aimed at tropical medicine specialists including parasitologists, virologists, medical entomologists, and epidemiologists leads the tropical medicine field in the scope, quality and breadth of its published scholarship. The journal, available to members and through institutional subscriptions, is freely available to non-profit institutions in developing countries through ASTMH’s participation in HINARI (Access to Research in Health Programme). James W. Kazura, MD, President of ASTMH commented, “ASTMH is committed to increasing the utility of the AJTMH and adding to the value of membership in our Society.”
Sheridan’s ongoing commitment to developing and providing the latest publishing technology advancements extends beyond Full-Text and Alert Apps to include Sheridan Mobile Alerts, Sheridan Mobile Editions, Sheridan Mobile ePrints, and Sheridan Print-to-Mobile QR Codes.
“The rapid and ongoing adoption of mobile devices, both smartphones and tablets, has continued to drive a growing demand from users for content tailored to the mobile user. Beyond that which is offered by mobile optimized websites, the native app will provide those users a broad range of features and functionality that make the content consumption process more engaging and useful,” stated Michael Hepp, Director of Technology Strategy at Dartmouth Journal Services.
