Hunt Valley, MD – Annual Reviews has partnered with Dartmouth Journal Services and the Sheridan Technology Lab to develop and launch a multi-title full-text iOS and Android app, releasing in September 2012.
The free EconScholar app allows immediate access to the full-text articles of the Annual Review of Economics, the Annual Review of Financial Economics, and the Annual Review of Resource Economics for both personal and institutional subscribers. Non-subscribers can access article abstracts and selected complimentary articles. Authenticated users can read full text articles, view high-resolution images, bookmark articles, search journal content, and access social media tools. Through the integration of social media tools, users can also share content via email, Twitter, and/or Facebook. In addition, the full-text content is automatically cached to the user device, providing full reading capability whether the user is online or offline.
“As the proliferation of mobile devices continues to grow, so to does the demand from mobile users to be able to access scholarly content in a user friendly, full-featured manner that does not always depend on a live Internet connection”, commented Michael Hepp, Director of Technology Strategy. “The EconScholar app will provide those users with both online and offline reading and searching capability for up to three volume years of the economics journals so they can access content wherever they are.”
Although the free app requires users to be authenticated in order to access the full-text of articles, the publisher will also include selected complimentary articles, which will be freely accessible to all users of the app.
Jennifer Jongsma, Director of Production at Annual Reviews commented, “Since its founding, Annual Reviews has provided the worldwide scientific community with a useful and intelligent synthesis of the primary research literature for a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines. With this new app, we have tailored our content and functionality specifically to economists. By including several complimentary articles, new users can see the breadth and quality of our review articles.”
Sheridan’s ongoing commitment to developing and providing the latest publishing technology advancements extends beyond Full-Text and Alert Apps to include Sheridan Mobile Alerts, Sheridan Mobile Editions, Sheridan Mobile ePrints, and Sheridan Print-to-Mobile QR Codes.
