Digital printing has come a long way over the years, and the use of digital inkjet print technology by publishers is on the rise. InterQuests’ 2010 Book Report predicts that digital manufacturing, which currently accounts for 4% of all printed books (in 2010) will increase to 15% by 2015. Although digital printing is not right for every project, for smaller print runs, it’s often a better option than tradition offset printing.

Two industry studies released this summer offer publishers the latest facts about book buying and sales. According to the first of these reports, BookStats 2012, which looks at publisher's 2011 sales, there's plenty in book publishing to celebrate.
eBook sales more than doubled from 2010 to 2011, with adult fiction eBooks outselling print for the first time. The category with the most growth overall (print and electronic) in 2011 was children's/young adults.
